Call Me Tonight

Imagine that you are an excited guy, and everytime you see something sexual, you become a horrible monster. Well, that's what "Call Me Tonight", a 1986 OVA, part of the "Pink Noise" series, is about.

While other parts of the series are more focused on action, psychology or horror, Call Me Tonight just wants you to enjoy a short episode about sexual excitement and monsters.

Rumi Natsumi, a high-school girl, works at Madonna, a phone sex line that sends girls to meet their costumers in person. One day, she recieves a call from a guy that tells her that he totally loses control when aroused. So, Rumi, ... as the manager of Madonna, decides that she's going to help this guy with his problem.
The only thing she doesn't know, is that what that guy meant by "losing control", is that he becomes a creature capable of killing lots of people.

It might seem like it's extremely bullshit and hilarous OVA, but it's not. More than being a serious OVA, Call Me Tonight tries to be a satire of all those romantic stories full of excessive sex, taking advantage of this to make an unconventional love story, mixed with horror just to make the viewer enjoy it on a single 30 minute episode.

Also, I really need to talk about the music of this. Both the opening and ending songs are "Please Call Me Tonight" by Emi Natsumi. I really love this song, and even if you end up not liking this OVA, you'll most likely agree with me that the song is worth listening to, with it's vibes from the 80s"

This short OVA summarises all of the low-effort romance movies currently in the world.


Girl meets boy, they fall in love, bunch of random things happen and they live happily ever after, but I have no complains with this one. The animation and art style is decent enough for its time though they could've put a little more effort. The voice acting is kinda choppy and feels as if it was not timed properly. The story is what you find in most romance movies these days but this one is a little bit unique. The characters are fine and all of them helped the story go ... forward but the OVA could've been a little more longer to explain what is happening to the guy and who are all the characters.



In conclusion, this OVA is worth watching if you have nothing to do and you wanna watch something retro





Still better than Twilight though.

answers the enduring question, "what if devilman was hornier?"

the animation and art were good (monster transformation scenes are a+), the city pop vibes of the opening sequence are impeccable, but this probably wasn't worth watching. it's not quite horror and not quite a romcom and ends up just sitting in a weird place in-between. it does a good job at leaning into a very silly premise, which i commend it for, and it has some cute moments, but i lost interest pretty close to the midway point. a fun novelty ova, but there are probably better things to spend your time on.
