Over Drive is, of course the most similar anime to Yowamushi Pedal. To the point that one could argue that it's a copy. Don't be tricked though, Over Drive exists since 2005 as a manga, while Yowapeda began in 2008. It's very easy to see that some inspirations came from Over Drive. Both are about cycling, both are about a young uncool boy self-realizing and becoming confident through road races. Many other second characters appear to share the same characterization.

Both are about a weak main character that has a special ability or a passion for a certain sport and his evolution.

Still can't get enough of unique characters, a sport anime that requires team work and strategy ? Ookiku Furikabutte is a baseball based anime that will grab your heart.

These two animes are very much alike because of the sport and romance involved. The realization of their individual hidden talent and the lead up to finding it is also very similar as the initial intention was to catch the attention of their beloved. Overdrive is a sport romance but the sport part of the anime pretty much dominates the storyline, in contrast, Suzuka is based on the affection of the main character (Akitsuki Yamato) towards Asahina Suzuka. There is also a similarity between the two female protagonist's somewhat aggressive but elegant personality. Whether you are watching it for the sport or the romance, they  read more

The two sport stories are similar in plot, where the main character finds a passion and dedicates himself to change. Additionally, the main characters in each story are inspired to take up their respective sports by a girl at first, but begin to truly love what they do near the end. Ironically, the top rival is named Hyoudou in both anime.

Defo very similar in character development as Ippo. The weak but limitless lead character that is being bullied and the serious/ace senpai etc Ippo is one of the best animes ever, and my favourite. Defo recommend to a fan of Over Drive.

Even though one is about cycling and the other is about a rock band, there's a similarity in the personality and story development of the main characters -- quiet, unassuming guy finding a new niche and a group of friends through a new interest -- that might appeal to people who who liked the relationships more than the subject matter. Both Shinozaki (Over Drive) and Koyuki (Beck) end up having a natural aptitude that's brought out through the combined efforts of a charismatic brother and sister pair, etc, etc, etc. The shows really are similar in the general sense (not so much in  read more

If you like Over Drive for the cycling aspect, Nasu is the only other cycling anime I know of, and it's pretty good. "Nasu: Summer in Andalusia follows the story of a professional Spanish cyclist, Pepe Benengeli, as he competes in the Vuelta a España road bicycle race through his home town in the Iberian region of Andalusia. As the story progresses, Pepe is faced with frustrating consequences, with him facing pressure from his sponsors and the wedding of his former girlfriend, Carmen, to his elder brother, Angel, coinciding on the same day of the penultimate stage of the bicycle race, and strives to gain the  read more

It is pretty much the same theme. Similarities include: 1. Main character gets into a new sport. 2. Starts loving it and practicing hard while getting better and better. 3. Makes new friends due to the sport. If you liked the one,you will enjoy the other one as well.

If you want to see anime where the main character is weak at the beginning but gets better by time then they are both watching. :) The main characters actually look similar too.

Mostly male cast competing in a competitive sport.

Both the protagonists are similar in terms of thinking that they are useless and is only good in one thing. Both shows reveal the analysis of both sports involved, which is cycling and baseball.

Both about challenge and pushing yourself to the limit. Same sport. Over Drive is a TV series. Nasu - A Migratory Bird with Suitcase - an OVA, which has a prequel movie (better to watch it first): Nasu - the Summer of Andalusia. If you enjoy riding your bike and also love challenges - these animes are for you.

Both series focus on team competition with the lead being a "zero to hero" type character with natural talent in their respective sports. Each show is comprised primarily of one long arc taking place at a tournament of sorts interspersed with flashbacks to flesh out the character development.

RideBack is about motorcycles and OverDrive is about bicycles, leading to similar events ... racing. The main character in each series starts out with a lot of hidden potential, they both learn quickly and enough to reach the level of their coaches - even personality-wise, they both seem shy on the outside but have a fiery competitive spirit that shines as they ride. RideBack seems to have a more elaborate plot, but I'd say both series would please to the same audience!

Both anime are about sports although in overdrive they race bikes and the main character isnt as headstrong as ikki. Still both anime are have the right amount of action and comedy

the main characters obtain a impossible looking dream and go for it not realizing that they are better than they think. also they both seem to be similar in the way they approach the sport.

They're both sporty anime, about the main character getting stronger physically and mentally as the story progresses. Of course, the main characters happen to become friends with amazing people who help them in their process of getting better in their sport. Both have good humor.

While they seem very different from the synopsis or just looking at pictures, Over Drive is very literally Initial D - but on bicycles. The music (especially the opening), the drama, the story, the characters, the feel of the show - everything is extremely alike to that of Initial D. Beyond even just the basic things, the more detailed things like character development, personalities, the things the characters go through - it's all like watching a redone version where someone took out the cars and threw in bikes instead.

both main char's start out being nothing in the world, but because of a girl they change thier lives for the better! if you liked one you will like the other!

I found that both anime were very fun to watch. Although Capeta is an autoracing anime, it reminds me if Overdrive. Both of the main characters grow in their profession as the anime progresses overcoming their personal shortcomings. I was captivated to throughout the entire series in both animes.
