These two series are both amazing space operas, but not only are both made by Matsumoto, Leiji, but the setting as well is quite similar, the feeling you get of the atmosphere from both space battleships the Arcadia and the Yamato sure make up for an amazing ride of an intense story! So if you love space related anime and the work of Leiji then these anime series are definitely for you!

Both are about war and how it impacts peoples lives, they're also both aimed at a similar audience and have a young main character. Tomino also stated that the idea of the White Base was directly inspired by Yamato.

70s sci-fi anime where the characters are the crew of a futuristic WWII-style Japanese battleship. They fight against a race of very humanoid aliens who have evacuated their home world and want to take over Earth. Similar music and art styles with a story emphasising patriotism and military values.

Both are sci-fi shows about humans living on a soon to be dead planet Earth trying to fend off alien attacks. They are from the same era and feature a similar vibe all around, as well as similar animation. Tekkaman has more of a focus on action.

They are both good space opera anime that involves a lot of fighting in space for a certain goal. I would recommend both of these towards any sci-fi lover!

Both series involve humanity dealing with hostile extraterrestrials, and have nearly invincible battle ships.

The ship designs and the space opera animation are almost the same.
