both historical japanese settings

different genre and premise, but if you take interest in stories that make use of the concept of kotodama, then you might check these for that reason as well. in both, characters fight by quite literally altering the shape of letters in their enemies' names, and taking away the name's properties. both start off with monster-of-the-week pattern.

Same time period and interesting mysterious main character. i would think sword of the stranger is by far the superior of the two but that's my opinion. Anyway Enjoy

For those who liked the character 'Atl' in Ayakashi Ayashi. You will also be able to draw a parallel between these two shows.

Both series contain real historic events, places and people which are mixed with fantasy elements. If you liked one of them, then you will probably like the other one too.

In both anime they are a group of unique and special individuals hired by their respective governments to eliminate monsters. Also the forming of each group is surrounded by special circumstances.
