fight against destiny and the end of the world
report Recommended by Crospi
Similarities: -Dark atmosphere -Battle to the death between sides -14 actual participants with many more involved -Dialogue heavy -Flashy action sequences -Both feel kind of incomplete. Fate/Zero is a prequel while the X manga hasn't actually finished. Dissimilarities: -X is to do with the end of the world while Fate/Zero is more to do with the battle for the holy grail. -In X, there are 7 members on each side while in Fate/Zero, there are 7 teams of 2. -X has CLAMP-like character designs which may not appeal to everyone. Fate/Zero has the Type-Moon designs which have a much more universal appeal.

Both deal with apocaliptic themes and have tragic stories.

Two fighting factions, which members have supernatural powers. Many bishounens. Apocalyptic theme. Megapolis backgrounds. And very strange one letter titles, which make hard to find these animes on torrent trackers!
report Recommended by Buran-kun
Each show deals with friends turning enemies, and deals strongly with death. The fate of the world is determined by the willingness of sacrifice.

pretty much the same story focusing on a guy, his best friend and his sister in a situation where they have to take sides ( good or evil ) based one's logic and philosophy .. in both, the characters find themselves torn between their selfish desires and the tendency to move on.. both deal with the same themes : life and death , revenge , magic , psychology ,the end of humanity , revolutionizing the world...

Demons come to earth. The world is in jeopardy. The MCs are similar. differences one works with the demons, the other has to choose his side.
report Recommended by Ennis1001
The MCs of their respective stories are individuals who moved into their new places that will turn into a battlefield dealing with supernatural powers that will involve the lives of the unjust and the innocent and that fate is not something to toy with but can possibly be changed. Darker moments catch up to the characters fast who are haunted by their pasts but must learn to deal with it and change their personalities to overcome it with strong companions.

Battle for the fate of the world in an apocalyptic state is the theme in both shows in a dark and tragic way but the main difference is the setting (Guilty Crown-Sci Fi and X-Modern) as well as the story and action. Plot twists, decision making, choices, dialogue, and pacing all comes down to play. The best friend-brother-sister triangle is a lot similar. On the other hand, you will see a lot of similarities such as friends turning against enemies, betrayal, deaths on both sides, school scenes, war, and the final decision that will determine everything.

Hakkenden instantly reminds me of the X TV/X 1999 Movie Same Supernatural feeling Since they are brothers and they have similar powers: Shino---> Kamui Souseke ----. Fuuuma

Two close high school students become enemies due to their destined incarnations as opposing divine beings. Angels, legends, bloody violence and tragic romance. Overall, a very similar dark supernatural shoujo (e.g. bishounen) theme. Highly recommended.

The whole Tokyo Revelations OVA is based off of X, it has the same characters, setting and overall dark nature. Both series are by CLAMP.

Promised Days are involved in both shows that involve the fate of the world between supernatural users and non supernatural users only to lead them to dead or alive.

Dark Signers Arc is basically Yugioh meets X/1999 without Gorn. Elements of Dragon, Fate, and World Destruction plays the key in both shows. The only difference is that there are 5 Dragons in 5ds and 14 dragons in X but the opposing sides share a common goal: destroy the current world and reform a new one. In other words 10 participants: 5 signers vs 5 dark signers and 14 participants:7 dragons of heaven vs 7 dragons of earth. It is really thrilling and fast pacing in 5ds but at the same time shonen whereas X gets all the death tolls as the battle goes on.  read more

Battle between the forces of good and evil is the same except that HxH is shounen and X is half shoujo/seinen and that HxH is more methodical whereas X is a prophecy show. It's worth a try if you try either one. Oh yeah HxH does have prophecy elements but in a different way.

Dark atmosphere surrounds both stories as people fight unaware of the fact that betrayal is coming.............Supernatural powers is highly involved as well. Characters in each sides have relationship with one another. The upcoming battle is going to shock everything. Interesting note is that both of the main characters have a relationship with another in the past (Akito and Shin=Subaru and Seishiro Suzaku and Julius(possibly Lelouch)=Kamui and Fuuma).

DKTB and X are supernatural shows with people fighting against each other in a city (DKTB is a police scenario and X is battle royale). They both have character focus on each important character as well as heavy dialogue which makes the story's pacing slower making the pace varying on and on like a slippery slope. They both have an apocalyptic setting. DKTB is unpredictable and you will understand by your own research on the other hand, X is predictable but is not that simple. Both have a character who takes on the bad side and has a sister complex (Fuuma and Hei to Kotori  read more

X TV and Fate/stay night are, coincidentally or not, about fourteen heroes fighting each other for the ultimate prize; the heroes are the 7 Dragons of Earth and 7 Dragons of Heaven (X), and the 7 magicians with their 7 servants (Fate/S N). The stories are about destiny, power and sacrifice, and are beautifully drawn, both taking place in present-day Japan. These series feature high school students torn from ordinary life for their higher purpose, and really go well together.

These animes don't have a vast amount in common, however if you enjoyed one you may enjoy the other. The Book of Bantorra is far less bleak and serious atmosphere, and the leading character are (for the most part) far less morally driven, the feel of the two animes is also quite different. However both have a mix of regular enjoyable supernaturally fueled combat scenes and character developing episodes. Both animes also have a diversity of abilities and a relatively large lineup of characters that each get their own turn in the lime light.

Both Basilisk and X have two waring factions with supernatural abilities, they also don't have your typical moral "good" and "bad" sides. Both animes also have a somewhat bleak atmosphere to them, and contain a similar group combat progression (deliberated phrased strangely to avoid spoilers). Both these animes also leave a bit to be desired from their leading characters, but have relatively solid supporting characters. However these two animes are set in different time periods, and also have a different feel to them.
report Recommended by Azeal
Both contain characters with a "special ability" who are unsure about where they belong. Each anime also contains a slight "world is trying to heal itself" and possible "annihilation of the human race" plot as well. Unfortunately, both animes also have a rather unsatisfying ending... but don't let that stop you from watching either! They're both great!

After hearing Kamui's seiyuu, I recognized that was Shinn's :0. So the reason why I put up this recommendation was because other than Code Geass being the spiritual successor of X, I see similarities between X and GSD regarding the main protagonists anti heroic elements and their decision making skills that puts them into a path where it forever warps their life. Other than that, fate of the world is the main theme regarding to save the earth as the way it is or to convert earth from it's corruption by any means necessary. It's worth watching once you get a hang of it because  read more

Similar art style, both play themselves out in an increasingly devastated Tokyo. Fighters on both sides are able to manifest 'powers' and there's also similar visual motifs like demon wings / one winged angels/devils. Also, teases of BL between the two main characters.

Death Note and X might seem impossible to compare at first glance, but when you look a bit more into it more similarities than you think may occur. Both series feature a protagonist who is caught between what they believe is right and wrong. Light is faced with moral conflicts regarding the value of human life, and also, Kamui is faced with conflicts between his own wants and the sake of the Earth. Both series have a dark feel to them and have supernatural elements. Also, both have large casts, so you're sure to relate to some one. The two distinct sides in each series  read more

For those who likes shounen ai this is sure a good one... though it hurts to watch the whole series but the art + storyline is worth a try. The shounen ai in this anime is subtle just like those in xxxHOLIC/Tsubasa (if you don't understand the storyline, again... I would recommend you to read the original manga...with one warning: THE MANGA IS NOT FINISHED AND IT WILL NEVER BE FINISHED)

Go Nagai's works have had a great influence on CLAMP, and X is one of the most obvious results of that influence. Like Devilman, X is apocalyptic fiction, focusing on the battle of the main character to protect humanity. Human nature, apocalyptic imagery, duality, and religious motifs are front and center.

Both take place in Japan with a supernatural dark setting that revolves around teenagers to adults. The MC in both shows are identical but differing personalities.
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
Both focus on characters of different goals fighting against each other a edgy dark feel and both have an apocaylpse setting to it.

In these two anime, you have a boy main character who is not normal and is trying to fight for the worlds future. Both anime also have the main character that is caught between what they believe is right and wrong. They may be targeted at different demographics, but they do have a similar dark supernatural tone to both of these shows.

- MC with a fate - Same kind of atmosphere - Same type of old art - Lots of drama and suffering - shoujo with shounen ai vibes

Both shows deal with a male who has personal struggles to deal with and must shoulder the fate of the world upon his shoulders.
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
Both shows have a similar brother and sister complex going on. Only thing except is that the main char in Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is a brother and in X, he is a friend of a brother. Regardless both main chars have serious personality and are willing to protect their loved ones. Not to mention they are pretty powerful too and are students. Only difference in both shows is that Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is light hearted amd friendly with magical powers while X is dark and depressing with supernatural powers. Also both take place in Japan.
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
The MCs must make a choice that will determine the fate of the world that shoulders them.

I feel like X is another Evangelion induced imagination as if Shinji got reimagined as Kamui and Kaworu as Fuuma. Regardless, Christianity and Post Apocalyptic are huge in both shows in terms of imagery and themes.

Both shows deal with a male who has personal struggles to deal with and must shoulder the fate of the world upon his shoulders.

Both are dark stories about a certain individual trying to fight their personal struggles. Also both stories have an apocalyptic and dark feeling to it.
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
Conflict between the Earth Duelists vs the Seven Barian Emperors is reminiscent to that of the Seven Seals vs the Seven Angels. Casualty count is pretty high that sets the dark mood of both shows and to the extent that the friend of the protagonists becomes his ultimate rival whose role is the opposite of his to determine the fate of the entire world at stake. Both series have letter X in their titles.

Supernatural powers/fighting techniques, mostly damn serious dialogue and a very dark story, one a bit more kiddier than the other but get you quite hooked to see the outcome of the story, and both are remembered series some times ago.

In an apocalyptic background, two groups of "espers" fight each other. These anime share the common traits of betrayal, enigmatical characters, and a protagonist that doesn't know what to do and who has to fight against people he doesn't want to.

The endless structure similarities include: - Super powered individuals of opposite sides that fight against each other; - Shared genres, such as action and drama; - Common themes, like granting wishes, fighting with ex-friends, protecting your loved ones, world destruction; - Large cast of characters with many bishounen and BL bait galore (despite GB having male-targeted fanservice); - Several similar persona, most - if not all - orphaned and/or with a tragic past (reason why grandparents are quite important in both series): the innocent, quiet schoolgirl (Kotori/Natsumi), the cheerful guy (Sorata/Ginji), the computer freak (Satsuki/Makubex), the killer in a business suit (Seishiro/Akabane), the busty beauty (Karen & Kanoe/Heaven), the man  read more

The similarities are in the plot/SL, You can see that the two anime/Manga both revolve around the needed 7 warriors.... Just with two different reasons of being... One's to save the world and the other to save only a portion of land from being taken over by the opposite country..

Although Mai-Hime starts off light-hearted, once its story gets going there's a lot of similarities between it and X. Both have intensely dramatic scenarios between characters involved in a war of super powers.
report Recommended by GRANZERO
In both, the two main guys are enemies that were childhood best friends. The goal is the same: two sides, where the bad guy wishes the world destruction and the end of humanity, while the good guy wishes not just to save the world, but save his (current enemy) best friend. Also in both the "Bad guy" used to be a very gentle and kind person but it was possessed by evil, and tries to defeat his best friend. Also in both animes, the bad guy has a sister that was also a best friend of the two, and that possesses powers.
report Recommended by Orulyon
Both are really dramatic and have themes of people losing it. Both have some romance themes and battles ( though there are more violent, shounen anime-ish battles in X ) and both main characters in each deal with the stress of lives in their hands
report Recommended by RedBardIsCool
The main characters (Kamui/Miharu) are fourteen/fifteen years old boys who are initially indifferent and antisocial, with a traumatic childhood and a great power inside them. The BL-esque art style and vibes are also similar, and you’ll find quite a lot of bishounen in both. X is way darker and sadder, but Nabari is far from being a happy-go-lucky anime.
report Recommended by RenaPsychoKiller
They both involve different varieties of magic and have magical fights with opposing sides and such. They also both have complex and vague love situations and some episodes / mini arcs specifically for supporting characters.
report Recommended by RedBardIsCool
Both revolve around Tokyo with dual realities. Both have a clear protagonist and antagonist with the antoganist turning to the dark side through choice. Both have a single female "catalyst" Yurine in Karas and Kotori in X.
report Recommended by Kage-Proxy
Male protagonist with a traumatic past (related to the violent death of one or more family members) and a childhood friend who's in love with him. Depressing series about people who have supernatural powers, not all on the same side. Having a high bodycount, they don's stint on blood and drama, even though EL obviously has way more exaggerated gore, and X is not ecchi. You'll also find a dog owned by a young girl in both anime.
report Recommended by RenaPsychoKiller
It's by CLAMP also. The characters in X, Tokyo Babylon, RG Veda, xxxHolic, Tsubasa Chronicle, and Chobits all...connect. The shows sort of overlap.

Similar style and characters. and double yay for having an awesome storyline! (:

Rayearth is quite literally just Magic Knight Rayearth put into the world of X/1999. CLAMP loves their crossovers and if you take a good look you will notice that the unifrms the Rayearth girls wear in this OVA are identical to the later school uniforms in X/1999. The setting is also a dark Tokyo being torn asunder, much like X.
report Recommended by Amberleh
Both shows contain a main character with a destiny that will determine the fate of the world. The concepts of fate and predetermination are focussed on strongly by each series. In either one, fate seems pretty grim. Scrapped Princess is considerably lighter than X, but they both hint towards a 'doom and gloom' conclusion throughout each respective show.
report Recommended by darkadonis
They both have close-knit groups fighting to save the world as well as very tragic undertones, such as broken trust and betrayal. Both have a dark atmosphere and underground organizations of sorts. Annd to add icing to the cake, Yomi bears a striking physical resembelance to Arashi, while Kagura seems very much like Yuzuriha both in personality and looks, as well as age and pocky-loving.

Both are about a child of prophecy trying to save the world from it's end.
report Recommended by RevengeofthePunk
Char Aznable's motive for changing earth is similar to the Dragons of Earth as Amuro Ray and Dragons of Heaven try to oppose their beliefs. Similar conclusions but not quite. Char's Counterattack is more of a war based story whereas X is a prophecy based story.

Apocalypse (metaphorical in Utena, literal in X). Destiny. Revolution. Opposites. Swords coming out of people's bodies. Giant amounts of drama. BL/GL subtext. Unlike your average shoujo series, here things can get psychological and violent.
