Both of them are about piloting airships. They have a very similar concept....In a sense...

"Tailenders" and "Oban Star-Racers" are both anime focused on racing where a lot is at stake. In these races, the situation is a free-for-all where violence often comes into play.

"Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go" and "Oban Star-Racers" are both about a group of very motivated young people competing in races where they make friends along their journey towards victory. It is notable to mention that mechanics and technicians play large roles in these two anime series, as they are the backbone of any good race team.

Sci-fi racing that's what these anime series are about, if you like this kind of genre you might like this anime as well!

After reading the synopsis of Oban you may be wondering what do a sci-fi racing anime and an adventure fantasy have in common. Well, a lot more than you think Both stories are placed in vast and unexplored worlds with their own rule systems and ways of life. Both have strong female protagonists who feel inspired by their overachieving mothers. Both put great emphasis on the different cultures and places the charecters are exploring. Both have amazing soundtracks that enhance the believability of the worlds they are set in. And most importantly they share a similar art style and overall atmosphere. Overall if you enjoyed the world-building in Made in abyss  read more

Watching Inazuma Eleven Go: Galaxy reminded me a lot of Oban Star Racers. Kids going on different planets, in Inazuma they play soccer on each, in Oban Star Racer its about racing cars. The mission is in both to save the universe. Enjoyed quite the story and graphics of these shows.

Both anime include tournaments as big part of the plot (proxy fighting via special dolls in AL, alien racing in Oban). Also, the protagonists of both were more or less inexcusably abandoned by a parental figure (the father in Oban, the mother in AL), and at the same age (when they were about 5 years old) to boot. They deal with being abandoned in a different manner: the protagonist of AL represses her feelings for a big part of the anime, while the one of Oban is more honest with herself in how she feels about this, and the latter is also less forgiving than  read more

The protagonists of Oban Star Racers and Kami no Tou have the goal of getting their dream come true, which is granted by some sort of God. -In Oban Star Racers you get your wish granted if you win a race. -In Kami no Tou you get your wish granted if you get to the top of the tower.

Sci-Fi Racing Oban racers has a more role into an off world/alien story and a bit more modern look and feel to the race vehicles. Although the action and story in F-Zero GP Legend is way more superior but definitely both a great watch!

Oban Star-Racers also includes a ragtag team of “buddies” all with their own goals like Cannon Busters. Both do a beautiful job building up the relationships and fearing for their character’s lives.

French animator Thomas Romain is one of the brains behind this series, and was also one of the four key people behind Oban Star Racers. Both share a unique not-so-Asian flare and really nice CGI mixed with traditional animation.

Another anime about racing on mechas. The art is quite resembling (CG mecha designs and 2D characters). In both animes main character is a girl.

It includes racing to a point, and it is very Scifi/fantasy.

Both extreme galactical races in a near future held only once in a few years. Outstanding animation when it comes to the races... Sonoshee also a big-boobed copy of Molly, the racing star of OBAN.

No, 'both are set in space' is not the point of this recommendation. While they're completely different all the way, I found one thing added to my enjoyment of both: they have focus on an element of Star Wars movies. While Star Wars jumped from thing to thing, these dwelve thoroughly in their motif, in the case of LotGH, politics on cosmic scale, and with Oban, 'formula ones in space'. They both evoked a sense of nostalgia I figure most of us who were obsessed with the SW's as kids would experience.

The overall feeling of both shows is very similar. They both feel very uplifting, positive, and prove that the impossible can indeed be possible. Not to mention both have fiery red-head female leads and rebel teams filled with youths from Earth. Both seek to overthrow a higher power. While Gurren Lagann focuses on mechs, however, Oban Star Racers has pod-racer-like ships.

This Franco-Japanese Series is a ideal progression from Zentrix. It is of the Same "Adventure" & "Action" Genres as the Latter, but OSR has a deeper overall Storyline and has a practically perfect English Dubb (yes such a thing actually Exists). The only way this Series could be better still would be if their was more of it.

While Oban is listed as shounen, many consider it to be somewhat of a shoujo series as well, like Moretsu. Moretsu is definitely a bit more on the shoujo side. Both series have strong female leads with a futuristic world and space travel. Both are about a ship crew with a teenage girl being the key component of the crew. Both series are also 100% accessable to kids.
