Green Legend Ran is like a far more rushed, prototype version of NaTHaT. It lacks the extreme tragedy of NaTHaT, but there are a TON of similarities between the two, such as... -- The lead being a simple-minded young boy, who makes it his goal to protect a girl with a mysterious power; a girl an army want to capture. -- A post-apocalyptic setting where the planet is dying and water is practically non-existent. -- The planet the story is set on being ravaged by war between two factions. -- People being killed without there being an attempt to tone down what's shown; there being blood when people get  read more

Similar stagnant, depressing feeling when watching both. Some hints of optimism here and there, but mitigated by oppressed lives of many, including children.

These anime are very similar in many aspects. Both feature a post-apocalyptic world featuring a boy and girl main character. Both feature the boy having to protect the the girl from some danger and politics. Both feature serious elements as well as lighthearted elements at times. Conan is done by Hayao Miyazaki, and so features a lighter tone that it wraps it's more serious elements up in. Green Legend Ran is a bit more serious and features some graphic violence, romantic themes, and even some downright pervyness at times, so is more "grown up" in it's feel. But both are very similar in many ways.  read more

While they were released many years apart, "Green Legend Ran" and "Children of the Whales" have many similarities, including: -they both take place in a desert environment -both have pretty intricate and complex world building -the plots of the shows are kicked into gear by a boy finding a strange girl with blue hair -there's a conflict between two races of people, with one seeing the other as inferior -even on the "good guy's" side, there are a lot of adults with evil intentions On a much more subjective note, both these anime gave me a similar feeling that's kind of hard to describe. Both "Green Legend Ran" and  read more

Though Blue Seed was way more populair than Green Legend Ran, both have plantlike enemies to fight. and the outcome is a bit unexpected

They are both stories with an idealistic and capable male lead (Pazu/Ran) that comes to the aid of a mysterious female lead (Sheeta/Aira) that is connected with otherworldly powers or entities. Laputa and The Holy Green are both unknown and forbidden landmarks that offer entryway into an unknown power that has the power to destroy humanity (or most of it). There are rival factions that oppose one another as well (Colonel Muska/Rodoists vs. Dola Gang/The Hazard) and the two leads end up involved as well.

this might seem as a stretch to some but I feel that both have a ery solid and truthful meaning at their "roots" if you must. the only thing that I see that is really different is the roles that the main characters in each play in the plot.

I'm surprised no one's made this recommendation yet, honestly. The stories in the two series are somewhat similar, a post-apocalyptic future where with a lot of desert environment. Except in Origin it was a man made disaster, and in Green Legend Ran it had to do with aliens descending onto the planet. There's a lot of similarities, like with nature being aggressive and fighting back, sometimes through the bodies of hosts, people with silver hair being special, and of course that a normal kid finds a girl who's on a journey.

both nadia and aria are very similar when it comes to wanting to know more about their origins and in learning the truth about their past. Plus both Nadia and Aria are willing to risk their lives for their loved ones and care about saving the world and hate violence. also ran and jean are very much alike as both want to avenge their loved ones death, both are orphans, both are in love with a girl who posessess supernatural powers, and both are have villians who are very similar and kinda resemble the ku klux klan.
