Similar levels of edge in these two.

Well animated, gritty, highly involved in the occult and on a larger scale. Worth a shot, but don't compare the anime to the tv series too much or you'll ruin it for yourself.

SD, like Teito Monogatari, mixes a slight bit of history (in SD mythology is more prominent) along fiction that is built on top of it, and like Onikirimaru it inserts interpersonal drama that juxtaposes the existence of oni along others' lives, although they are more verbal than the ones in the latter series, and at a couple of junctures they even display sadness which oni aren't typically associated with.

These two old school anime classics have a similar dark and disturbing tone to them. They both focus on humans trying to fight against a evil supernatural force that is trying to destroy humanity. They also have similar looking animation since they are both from Mad House.

Old school anime with a dark storyline. Story takes place in the recent past. Demons, blood, gore and predictable ending. Enjoy!

Both of these animes are bizarre. The authors and creators have gone out of their way to come up with a plot-line that really makes you think. Neither if these are for the faint of heart and some of the scenes are NOT children friendly. Highly recommend both of these for a student of the psychological and horrific. I've had to re-watch both these animes at least once to attempt to wrap my head around them and I may have to back to them again. If you are looking for a light-hearted comedy or feel good anime, these are not them.

A much better supernatural type anime.

Both are action horror anime with terrible dubs, violence, gore and nudity. Both anime came out in 1991 with similar animation, and a similar dark and gritty tone. Both anime also have similar story themes with evil forces trying to destroy the Earth.

Tokyo Revelation features a similar story themes, demons and spiritual warfare, but with the added modern day touches of technology.
