Both of these films summarize the events of the early episodes in their respective series. Also, both of them feature a young pilot who has to pilot a mecha for the first time and is learning how to cope with that experience.

The Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy takes footage from the episodes Mobile Suit Gundam television series and puts them into three movies for a quick but thorough experience, this allowed a boost in popularity for the Gundam franchise because many people could watch it in theatres in Japan back then. Do You Remember Love? adapts the story of the Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series and also compresses it down for quick but thorough viewing, just like the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie trilogy, it was a great publicity boost for its own series. Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy has a more focused matured plot, while Macross should be best  read more

Both are mecha anime, which try to deconstruct their genre. In both anime, the main protagonist is a teenager, who becomes a mecha pilot, this becoming a child soldier in a devastating war. Both anime show the impact of war on these children, as they are forced to kill enemies and cope with the loss of their comrades. Also, in both shows, the main protagonists have a similar attitude and often refuse to participate in combat. Overall, both anime have a similar grim atmosphere and deal with similar themes.

being from the same company, to me the simmilair thing lies in the enemy;s army suit design , in both gundam and votoms the enemy's army suits are derived and parly inspired by the uniforms from ww2, mainly the german designs and because japan was sadly part of the back then axis of evil!

Both are military science fiction anime that focus on a conflict between two factions that share different ideologies. Both series portray war in a fairly realistic way, showing its destructive effects, as well as having many characters die in the line of duty.

Both are mecha anime created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino. Also, these two movies summarize the events of the respective TV series. Since they are created by the same man, they have a similar style of storytelling. They focus on a war between two opposing factions, an overpowered mecha, and a lot of tragic moments.

Compilation films of a Sunrise Real Robot series that cut out a lot of filler. Gundam I begins with a military operation by the antagonist to investigate a secret weapon in a space colony, this turns out to be the titular Gundam, a next-generation mecha that overcomes the antagonist's own quickly and goes on a path to turn the tide of the war. Gundam I also features antihero Char Aznable's quest for revenge on the ruling Zabi family that killed his father, one act of revenge results in a funeral which offers the antagonists a chance to turn it into a political rally. Code Geass I does  read more

Well the main characters are young and both love similar things which lead them on a grand adventure. Hey mecha anime is cool anyway and both have really good stories and Eureka 7 has some great music in it! Oh and Eureka 7 boasts very nicely designed mecha just like Gundam!

When watching Crusher Joe, I really couldn't help but constantly think of the resemblance it bore to MSG. Not only are the character designs the same, the overall feel of the movies is just extremely similar. I can't really imagine liking one and disliking the other. Note: I haven't seen the full MSG 0079 series, and only the summary movies, but I assume it would pertain to that as well.

Both are old-school mecha anime. Although they both show their age, they also both remain very watchable even now and are rightly hailed as classics.

Epic space opera movie retellings with a lot of politics and strategy, sharing common themes of intergenerational divide. Mobile Suit Gundam I is the first in a trilogy that compiles episodes of the Mobile Suit Gundam television series for quicker viewing. Overture to a New War is both a prequel and a remake of the first couple of episodes of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes OVA. Both are retellings of previous material but neither are by any means replacements, as the things they add/change serve to complement their existing source material. Both depict the tragedy of war, the longing for and the loss of loved ones  read more
