It seems to me that if a person liked the story of Kaikan Phrase, they'd like Beck too. They're both stories about mostly strangers coming together and working towards their dreams of being a famous rock band. They were very similiar but Beck was done better, I think.

Both is about getting into the music industry. Difference is that Uta no Prince-sama is boy band(idol) while Kaikan Phrase is a band(rock band or something like that). Then there's also a composer in both. Kaikan Phrase has romance is the lovey dovey kind in the later half while uta no prince-sama romance is not obvious. More like other kind of reverse harem since it is from a game. Okay idk if i'm making sense but you'll understand me if you watch them both.

Both are shows based on boy bands with some romance. Also, the animation and style look similar, and both series have some BL/slash.

for one, they are both music anime I like - which says something. Though Apollon is jazz in the late 1960s, and kaikan phrase is rock in 1980's (or so), both have the sort of charisma that just draws you in until the very end, leaving you wanting more. both are 9+ one my list another you might like is Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad

Both about bands starting up with a couple good friends. Kaikan Phrase is darker than K-on but goes a lot more into the music. The band in Kaikan Phrase is also serious about being a band as a profession rather than just a high school club.

Slightly different type of music genres but both series includes good looking male characters, searching & creating a boy band (idols), a lot of drama (up and downs) while achieving to reach the top of the music industry.

If you liked the musical bishie aspects of Kaikan Phrase (rock band trying to make it big), you might like La Cordo D'Oro (a reverse harem at a high school for music). Story-wise, they're not so similar, but the ingredients are kind of the same. The biggest difference would probably be the fact that one's rock and the other is more classical. ^v^
