To know that you are not the only "different" one, to understand those who are different from you, here is what I felt for those stories. Both manga deal with subjects that I found very interesting, in the sense that although they talk about subjects that can be sensitive/taboo for some people, you get to be immersed in the person's situation and to understand (at least a bit more) their point of view, to see that there are many more people who look like you than you might think.
