Both red-colored elegy and dousei jidai are centered around a tragic love story set in the early 70s in the typical 4.5 tatami room.
These young couples are torn between living their lives freely and conforming to what society wants them to do : marriage, having a child, a stable job (both men are illustrators)
They also feature communication issues as a common theme and share some of the same poetic and abstract art and iconography.
Same kind of stories, same artistic presentation.
