Both are well-written, healing stories that feature an unlikely friendship between an adult and a minor with a large age difference. In both, the characters get to know each other and care for one another during a difficult time in their lives, and they grow as individuals through these interactions. After the Rain / Koi wa Ameagari is tagged as a romance, but like My Boy / Watashi no Shounen, the prickliness of its premise is handled with maturity and respect.
