Both stories deal with bullying at schools, and a girl who goes against the norm and gets outcast for it. Both series get pretty violent at times, and both lead males have a soft side to them. While there are love triangles in both series, don't expect penguin brothers to have nearly as much romance as hana yori dango does. Still, both series are cute and fun reads.
Both mangas revolve around incidents which occur in a school the main character attends. Both main characters have to deal with being singled out by fellow pupils for, basically, standing up for what they believe in. There are quite a few 'plot twists' in Hana Yori Dango and Penguin Brothers which are similar. Both mangas involve some form of love triangle.
Yup, coming to a new school and eventually meeting trouble by speaking out against the corrupted order (lead by their male interest), and thus the whole school goes against you. Yet, this chaos and bullying only ignites the fire in the heroines' heart, and eventually changes other hearts as well.
