Holyland

While Holyland is not nearly as graphic as Shamo, both share the similar theme of a deeply troubled youth who finds the strength to overcome with some form of martial arts.
Heavily protagonist-centered mangas about one guy bettering and finding himself through martial arts.
A lot of philosophical and metaphorical conversations, monologues etc in both. Also go surprisingly into specifics of fighting and training.
Shamo is way more vulgar and dark.
Shamo and Holyland share fantastic Streetfights, psychological developments of the Protagonists, Yuu and Ryu had a similar beginning with martial arts and got obsessed with it.
Not only the fights in these 2 manga are similar but also the aspect of friendship, betrayal, hatred to other people and the beginning of understanding themselves.
Holyland has very good seinen content in it, but Shamo overwhelms it and has a completely darker theme since the protagonist is nihilistic and plays the villain.
