Oya Naru Mono Dangai

Both these stories take place on and around Hokkaido, mostly during the pre WWII period. The ideological struggles during that time form a part of the background and of some of the character's agendas.
However, oppression, exploitation and death seem the most important common themes to me.
Oya Naru Mono Dangai is somewhat more depressing, Kanikousen has a more positive outlook (maybe because the original author still had hopes for a brighter future at the time of writing 1929, and did not see what was coming).
