-Many scenes about cutesy, everyday life between the two main characters
-There's a dark and underlying dread about both series (Kuro's is more about the backstories of the characters and the situation of the town while HSL's is straight yandere style)
-Some mystery elements (though Kuro's is built over the whole series while HSL's is more confined to numerous, smaller mysteries that are solved with each chapter)
-Small, tightly-knit cast of main/side characters, all with their own arcs and backstories (Kuro has about seven characters throughout the majority of the plot)
-Adorable, black haired lolis
-Yanderes (HSL goes for the Yuno Gasai approach while Kuro's is much softer)
