Both are set in the edo period of Japan. Both have swordsman aspiring to become the greatest in all the land. And BOTH have great stories and amazing art!

Both involve skillful sword fights and the journey of a young man to be the strongest sword master. Compared to vagabond, Gamaran is a shounen and is a much quicker read. If you want more detail Vagabond is the way to go but Gamaran has similar elements and fights are intense.
