Both series play with master/servant relationships, torture, and in both there is mention or glimpses of incest. Lots of drama in both, but only hinted romance in Godchild.
I respect anyone who can read Sakura Gari and live to tell the tale. The same thing goes for Godchild. Both are chock-full of heart wrenching pain and tragedy set in their own personal historical time periods. On the surface, these two stories aren't similar in the least bit, but the underlying meanings are completely relevant. Both have made it to my top ten mangas, easily.

Both have a somber downbeat setting and story tone as well as a focus on a shounen ai styled that focuses on a master and servant relationship as well too and both are told in a certain period of history as well too.
