Both series represent the total opposite goals within the same "friendships" theme. The main characters in both manga are a boy and a girl sitting next to each other. The female lead has difficulties finding friends so the male lead tries to help her out.

However, as the names of titles imply, Komi-san revolves more around the female lead while Yugami-kun is more about the male lead. And while Komi-san's plan is to gain friends, Yugami-kun is not interested in having friends at all.
