Both series have a similar friendship theme, as what is the friendship that female lead and male lead have? In Kusunoki-san former MC loners try to be more outgoing, in Yugami-kun the loneliness is discussed differently.
Kusunoki-san is more romcom oriented and Yugami-kun more comedy oriented series. While the orientations are different I enjoy them for the well written character interactions.
