The concept of survival horror takes hold as the main characters realizes that their lives are at stake in a twisted game. The main male protagonist must find ways to survive while competing against others while forging alliances. They encounter both allies and adversaries along the way. As both series progresses, there seems to be a larger mystery regarding the concept of the game. At the same time, the characters realize what's really at stake as their lives changes forever. Recommended for fans of survival horror and dark fantasy/adventure.

Both stories involve a game where people get stuck in and have to fight in order to survive. The element of mystery is very important in both manga. They contain a lot of violence, fighting and deaths, so be prepared for that. If you like these kind of settings then these manga are just perfect for you!
A lot of blood and gore is what transpires as a selection of people are forced to fight against their own will to survive. Gantz differs with a sci-fi setting with its characters working together to take down all kinds of monstrosities. While Btooom! works more as a death game, where its characters are put on an island and forced to kill each other with specialised bombs. If you like one for its non-stop action, blood, gore and theme of survival you'll be sure to like the other. For an added bonus both manga contain some romance.
