Both Aphorism and Gantz have the main idea of surviving against strange beasts/aliens. Both are really bloody and grotesque.

In both series, humans are forced to fight monsters.
In Aphorism, high schoolers are cheated to enroll into the high school. Without knowing anything, they are forced to fight monsters/creatures until they graduated from the school.
In Gantz, certain amount of died humans/animals are 'transferred' into a mysterious room. They are given a chance to live again and in return, forced to fight aliens until they scored enough points to release themselves from gantz.
