Both are supernatural Shonen manga where the main characters have to deal with spirits and demons.
Both take the concepts of spirits in nature acting with and reacting to human-kind. The way I see it, Kekkaishi is what Shaman King should have been, or could have been if Hiroyuki Takei had taken better care of the story. If you like the vibe of Shaman King, and you're okay with an (initially) basic shonen protagonist, be sure to check it out.
