Both girls transfer into a new school and end up in a fight on their first day, which they win. They're both challenged to subsequent fights which they also win (though in banchou-sama it's always by accident). They're both in situations where they're surrounded by misfits that are actually good people and look out for them - In obaka-chan it's the ba-ka class and in banchou-sama it's the whole school.
