They are a compilation of realistic stories in which people have tough times. Both mangas include sad stories, hard scenes and some serious critiques of modern Japanese society.
While Asano Inio complains about the hard times that young people must face during a economic crisis, or just because of bad luck, Shun Umezawa uses his manga to criticize more aspects of the Japanese, for instance the racism towards foreigners or their worries of their appearance.
