These are both slice of school life romances with comedy thrown in, with themes of discovering friendship and feelings of love. Kimi ni Todoke is more old school shojo while Komi Can't Communicate is definitely newer, but they both have very adorable girl characters who are amazed by so many things the male love interest shares with them. The main male character in both is very perceptive of the female's emotions and supportive.
