Both have protagonists that are socially inept/stunted, developing love relationships with more socially/romantically experienced guys that are popular at school.
Although Watashi ni XX Shinasai's protagonist is slightly less innocent compared with Kimi ni Todoke's Sawako, both are extremely pure romantically and socially. The theme of both mangas could easily be summarized as "learning to fall in love"
