Dealing with memories and relationships, both series has a sense of innocent love behind them. There is complex drama that unfolds between characters as each chapter expands its story. If you're into stories with friendship, romance, and characters that can tell a story based on these themes, then I would suggest giving both a try. Do note that ef has fantasy themes as well while Isshuukan Friends has more of the innocent factor, especially at school.
