Pretty sure that Dekisokonai no Himegimi-tachi was heavily influenced by Girl Friends. . . Both feature a gyaru befriending a shy and awkward bookworm and share many almost identical plot devices and storylines, the most blatant instance is probably the bath scene. That was just way too on the nose to be a coincidence.

While Girl Friends doesn't portray a once bully & the bullied relationship then becoming lovers, there are very common themes between both of the GL manga. The "beautification" and certain character insecure are shared between the two, among others. If you have read one of these stories, I recommended the other!
In both series there is a popular girl that makes an unpopular girl pretty and they become close friends which may lead to something closer than close friends.
