In both, the relationship starts out reluctantly, but leads to the two musicians forming a very strong bond as they endure the obstacles placed before them and explore what it means to live your life.
As for differences, SnA is not as heavy as Diamond Dust, and involves a younger cast. The relationship in Diamond Dust is romantic, whereas in SnA it is a platonic "bromance"
