Both are about young adult characters.
They both contain past/future mechanics as you unveil what happened in the past that led to the future - though NANA takes place more in the past even though the future is technically the present, while Piece more just has plenty of flashbacks.
Nana O and Mizuho have similar haircuts and difficulties getting close with people, though in a different way. Mizuho's best friend also has more than just a physical resemblance to Hachi too.

Both are focused around complicated friendships and complicated romances as well too and share a more somber tone as well too and both have a young adult cast in it it as well too and a cool and reserved dark haired female lead in it as well too.
