-Both have a unique take on battling in shonen, where whoever uses their power the most creatively comes out on top, instead of the one who's simply the strongest
-While it is less so of HxH, both take place in a realistic setting. HxH has more advanced technology, but generally the settings are pretty similar
-Both series don't shy away from violence in the slightest, and often characters are beaten until bones are broken or people/animals are slaughtered in mass quantities to hype up a villain
