I found them quite similar, both are psychologically DIFFICULT (serious) mangas; 'Y!' is for example about fear of aids, and 'J' is about love with misunderstandings, rough which may cause a lot of pain to the both sides (psychologically and physically). I enjoyed both, so I'm recommending.
