Both set in Ikebukuro, with a young main character trying to solve problems in his everyday life involving weird and shady individuals. Colour gangs, their leadership and their turf wars also play a major role in the plot of both.
I would recommend watching the live action drama for IWGP and the anime for Durarara!!, as the plot is easier to follow and is better quality. It enhances the experience of reading the manga by a lot.
