They are atypical battle shounen that contains a dark and gothic atmosphere. Most of this atmosphere is carried by the artwork, filled with dark scenes and avantgardist drawings. In the story field, they are about an organization that fights demons/witches and the fights are carried in a similar way with similar weapons (although in Soul Eater the weapons are humans transformed).

If you enjoy the atmosphere of Soul Eater, you'll be sure to like D.Gray-man plenty!!
These two anime have many common points.
The biggest similarity is the atmosphere. If you liked the atmosphere of Soul Eater or D.Gray-man, you will surely enjoy the other one.
Even if D.Gray-man is objectively better than Soul Eater
D.Gray-man and Soul Eater have very similar environments and the art style is somewhat similar as well. The Halloween themed atmosphere of both are very similar as well. Both manga have a dark story with quite a bit of comedic moments sprinkled in. Soul Eater is more lighthearted than D.Gray-man, but it gets pretty dark later on as well. Check out both!

D.Gray-man and Soul Eater have a very similar Halloween aesthetic, and both have a dark story with some humor. Art styles are slightly similar as well. D.Gray-man is on a whole other level compared to Soul Eater, so if you like Soul Eater, you’ll like D.Gray-man, but not really the other way around.
