Main characters follow a very similar path in terms of their main character's overall character progression, both are largely political conflicts with HnK being more fantastical and less complicated than SnK. Both are tragedy stories with large casts of likable characters in some sort of training to stop the bad guys (but are they really as bad as they thought?). HnK seems to being aiming for almost half the length of SnK though, and both have art styles that take getting used to.

Both take place in post-apocalyptic world full of mysteries with remains of civilization living on a small territory and fighting monsters who want to destroy last survivors. And in both stories we follow main characters fighting this monsters and slowly solving mysteries of the world they are living in. Also both main characters develop a lot during the story. Finally, both manga are an excellent piece of fiction which if you start you won't be able to stop reading till you finish them.
Same premise about a group of characters fighting some otherworldly and powerful creatures but as the story progresses, many mysteries slowly unfold and they gradually become dark, tragic, and depressing. The main protagonists from the two series, Phos and Eren, also share a lot of similarities in their personalities and developments.
A very mysterious world, with enemies (titans in aot, moon people in hnk) they fear. While, hnk has a better atmosphere, more darker and tragic moments, aot has violence, deaths, gore etc. Main characters are also very similar
