It captures some of the more complex themes of discrimination and pervasive racist policies that AoT tried to tinker with in its endgame, but the author of 86 knows what to do with it. 86 does also capture the early feel of AoT's fighting a seemingly endless number of mindless "monsters", the monsters in this case are rogue AI killing machines. Between the LN and Manga adaptations, the former is better in my opinion and there is more of it to consume legally outside Japan as it stands.
