Although these two light novels differs a lot story-wise, they also carry their similarities as adventurous fantasy series.
Both protagonists are, not by choice, bound to a role (in DenYuuDen he's the bearer of Alpha Stigma, in Tate no Yuusha it's the Hero of the Shield) that's despised by society.
Both series has a theme concerning legendary heroes, and as they're set in a fantasy world, they're full of magic, dragons, knights, kingdoms and whatever you could expect from your typical fantasy story.
Not to mention a great set of characters, I can recommend both of them!
