Sometimes it feels like DMC on itself got some inspiration from Devilman.
Angelic or Greek/Roman/Christian aesthetics are depicted as deceptive in both worldbuildings, while making Demons more of troubled creatures rather than mindless zombies, despite their monstruous forms.
The struggle between bestiality (demons) vs the mind and heart (humans) is real in both of these two. Without having played DMC you can take a look on Visions of V as a "standalone", however, it spoils the whole purpose of DMC5. Give this a try if you're willing to get into the games.
