Theme- and genre-wise, these two are just different. However, they somehow give the same experience to the reader through the same plot formula of seemingly endless series of unfortunate events and unexpected twists. As a result, reader becomes skeptical whenever good things and peaceful events happen, because they can't help but think that there might just be a catch or something.
There's also a resemblance to the art style for both series, since both are kinda realistic and are fully utilized to execute both light comedy and dark humor better.
