Both stories focus on the confusion and shock of discovering and handling feelings towards a person of the same sex and how to move from there and come to terms with it.
Hana wa saku ka isn't quite as angsty and is on a slightly brighter side but still, they are two manga which I love since they explore the more serious sides to a homosexual relationship between men.
