Namaikizakari and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun are similar in the dynamics between the ML and FL. In both shoujos the FL is the hardworking, perfect yet expressionless girl. Where as the ML is the popular, tall, and smart guy. The shoujos end up giving a similar vibe even though their stories differ quite a bit. Namaikizakari is about the school's Basketball Club and their struggles and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is set in more of your typical highschool shoujo.
Shizuku and Yuki are both expressionless, hardworking girls who fall for tall, attractive, inexplicably smart, "wild child" guys. After owning up to these feelings, they also struggle to balance their work with their romance, which is new territory.
I prefer Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun to all other shoujo, but I will admit that Namaikizakari distinguishes itself from the genre with the basketball element. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun spends more time developing the lead characters' relationships with others, and it has a stronger supporting cast. I forgot Yuki even had friends! Furthermore, I think the timeline of Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is established better.
