The main reason i find these two very similar is because of the 'feeling' they portray when reading these. The stories are very realistic to a point where they are a depressing reality. Both have characters that are at the low point of their lives and who frankly just don't give a s**t about anything any more. Because of this you won't find fluffy romances or consequential relationships here, but people who have hit rock bottom and live day to day.
The art is also very similar. No shading or colouring but very detailed designs and graphics.
