I think both are similar.Both are about forgotten forms of art (Karuta in Chihayafuru and Koto in Kono Oto Tomare!) and both are about people who still have passion for that art. Both have interesting and deep characters.Both are the kind that look average before you actually read them, and when you do, you are pleasantly surprised by how interesting the manga is. and you end up liking it very much! If you like one, you will most likely like the other.

Both deals with fields that are not highly recognized by common people, i.e. karuta game for chihayafuru and koto instrument for kono oto tomare. Both have characters that try to reestablish their clubs.
