In both stories, a certain element of fantasy comes to life. They both involve someone realizing certain changes in the world as they know it.
The main characters in both stories have abilities develop because of their expansive knowledge on what's happening.
Both are also very analytical, and always attempt to find ways to give themselves the advantage.
To be honest, The Gamer just reminded me a lot of ORV
