Black-Box is something between a love letter to and a deconstruction of Ashita no Joe, and it becomes more obvious the further you read. There are references to Joe on a full spectrum of explicitness from plot points and specific panels all the way to the title of the final chapter. In fact, the ending of Black-Box is probably less satisfying if you HAVEN'T read Ashita no Joe. As
