Stories written by the same author. The MCs both had very tough upbringings, while both female leads are from rich families. A lot of drama comes from the tension between disparity of their backgrounds (although in Ai to Makoto, the girl was in love from the beginning). As the story progresses they grew to understand the MCs' fighting spirits.
In Ashita no Joe there's only a hint of romance; if you few unsatisfied, you should probably read Ai to Makoto.
