The plots are remarkably similar: a human girl bestowed with supernatural powers attracts the extra attention of a powerful youkai who falls in love with her. Adjusting parental memories in order for the two to live together, the stories trace their encounters with otherworldly beings.
Needless to say you'll receive your romantic tease. Koyoi traces a more sophisticated and slow-paced romance whereas Ayakashi has a smuttier tone. That said, it is way more toned down than many other works by Sakai Mayu and as such adds to the novelty.
