Dorohedoro and Tokyo Ghoul involves a main protagonist whose life undergoes a drastic change. Their character becomes less of a human but more of a supernatural being with special abilities. Both series revolves around creatures who can do extraordinary things. At the same time, there's a dark mystery that revolves around the origins of these powers. Both series' story are thought provoking with a variety of themes. Recommended for fans of supernatural/fantasy/horror.
While Dorohedoro is rather unique manga, executed differently than Tokyo Ghoul, common themes can be found, what alone deserve recommendation. Identity, insanity and masks(!) from less popular, obedience(to orgaznization), artificial family bounds, tolerance and oppression from more popular and even power and friendship , but let us leave those two aside. Both stories follow not only protagonist, but also antagonists, as well as side characters. There is also typical for action-seinen gore. But maybe it all comes down to masks. Anyway, they sometimes give the same feeling and are worth reading.
If you liked Tokyo Ghoul's dark and gritty story, you need to get into Dorohedoro! They are both seinen manga about a split society (basically two groups of races at war with each other), masked people and lots of gore and body horror. In both series the main character undergoes some sort of identitiy crisis. Probably the biggest difference is, that Dorohedoro doesn't take itself that seriously sometimes, while TG pretty much always does.
